Sandra Bullock thinks her new flick The Proposal has been so successful in America because people want to see her taken down a peg or two.

The 44-year-old actress, who plays a high-powered and pushy boss in the romcom, said audiences are tired of her nice roles and want to see her trip up.

She said: "People want to see me taken down - they're tired of my good girl next door attitude, they want to see me taken down and hurt and they get it."

She continued: "And they want to see Ryan (co-star Ryan Reynolds) naked and they get it.

"So what the public wants we give them, and then of course we give them the cute little dog because every film that has a cute little dog, that's what the audience want to see.

"So every element we picked apart, what do audiences really love the most about films, and we just sort of piecemealed it into this movie. There's the proposal... and a wedding, albeit not a traditional one, but all the elements in film that people love, we gave them."

The Proposal opens on Wednesday July 22.
